History: His wiki page!

Personality:
+ (brilliant/creative) Newton is an extremely brilliant fellow. Up to his gills in degrees and knowledge in the sciences, he's capable of handling a lot of materials and technologies that others would find difficult to parse; he can create drift technology out of garbage, and has studied kaiju so extensively that he's able to determine their genetic make-up and the fact that they're cloned from each other and composed of the same organic materials. Basically, if you need a scientist to use a big brain to get shit done, he will excitedly do it...
+ (brave/bold/determined) ... because he is also, for his size and stature, brave and bold. Fortune favors that kind of person, right? That's his philosophy. Once he's got a goal in mind, he doesn't let anything get in his way, be it the higher-ups or a black market kaiju dealer (with a gaggle of guns pointed at his head). He absolutely fits the criteria of a glass-donning chihuahua, huffing and puffing and facing other people with a sometimes unwarranted bravado; Raleigh Becket (in a deleted scene) and Hannibal Chau (in a not deleted scene) know it first hand. He may cower during life and death situations, but ultimately, he will absolutely throw himself into those life and death situations without hesitation... Pentacost knew shooting him off to find kaiju brain matter would yield results, anyway.
+ (passionate/devout) It may have something to do with the fact that he's very passionate about the life he leads. He's a 'kaiju groupie' in the movie, someone who does fixate on something and excel at that particular field. It's because of his passion that he's able to do the job he does, arm-deep in guts and acidic blood, starry-eyed and full of eagerness like the typical fanboy. He believes in devoting yourself to the things you love and will always nudge everyone else to follow that passion, even if people look at you funny for it. That passion helps manifest as a huge surplus of work completed and a very nice resume of 'mad scientist gets a lot done in a short amount of time'.
- (overwhelming/manic) On the downside, Newton does have a difficult time making long-lasting friends in his field. He can be a little too overwhelming, very active and chatty and barfing full-on paragraphs if you leave him to his own devices for too long. He's a bit self-conscious about this fact and does often try to win people's favors out of fear of ostracizing himself, but it's hard to do when your mouth is faster than your mind at times (read: most times). He's a manic little guy who will pull all-nighters and overextend to the point of obnoxiousness, and his passion sometimes evolves into an accidental tool in scaring away new company, and also lends to him being...
- (rude/blunt/oblivious) ... unintentionally (or very intentionally) rude, especially due to the fact that he's a blunt fellow who tends to always speak his mind and vocalize whatever frustrations or disapprovals he may have stewing in his head. He can also be so completely involved in his own thoughts and passions that he completely misses social cues, and will inadvertently offend the people around him. When he's so locked into his work or his thoughts, he can be unaware of how he impacts the space around him, much to his lab partner's frustrations. That bluntness can be a positive, but more times than not it gets him into trouble. Especially bar fights.
- (reckless/bullheaded/immature) Newton is also... uh. Extremely reckless at times. While fortune favors the bold, he also tends to throw himself headfirst into an empty pool, metaphorically speaking. Even when he isn't completely sure of the outcome of something, he'll do it anyway, and in that sense he can be a potential hazard for himself and the people around him. As much as his work in-canon had helped close the breach and save humanity from a kaiju overload... well... the second movie kind of demonstrates what happens when he does something without knowing the actual effects of his actions. Generally speaking, he really just needs someone to wrangle his impulses and shove him into a chair before he does a very stupid, compulsory thing. Sometimes it makes him on par with a child, when it comes to processing bad life choices.
Powers/Abilities: No powers or abilities here generally, other than his smarts and ingenuity! He has drifted twice with a kaiju had has been 'infected' by precursors, which are the aliens that had caused the kaiju to invade their planet. Essentially, he has a neural link with pretty nasty aliens that influence him to do things to their benefit. They would want him to return home as soon as possible to complete the work they plan for him to do, and so could potentially nudge him toward darker directions/push him into doing things he wouldn't normally do in order to get his orbs. Over time in-game, he will be more and more compelled by them, which will (hopefully) end in a player plot to remove them!
Regret: Not having the ability to drift much earlier on with a kaiju, so that he could dispense information about them much sooner that could have potentially saved countless lives. (Basically, he wants to go back and do all the shit he did in the movie, but years prior if he can to minimalize loss.)
(This will also work well to inspire the precursors to help Newton get back home to 'undo' things — but under the hopes that they can completely sabotage him, instead.)
Inventory: The sloppy, partly damaged leather jacket with his messy clothes from home, his glasses (with one lens cracked), some foreign currency in his pocket, his phone, and a voice recorder he loves blabbering into.
