Canon Tattoos | Yamarashi
Location: Left forearm.
Summary: Yamarashi is one of the largest Category III Kaiju to emerge from the Breach, weighting 2,500 tons. Based on Newton's forearm tattoo, it can be assumed Yamarashi was green, appeared to hunch, and sported scales akin to a fish. He had a long, flat snout, pointed claws, and four eyes sunk deep into his face. Further details offered by Newton's tattoo is a crest of spikes behind its head, blunted teeth, and its lower jaw is adorned with tendrils that resemble a beard.
☼ According to the novelization of Pacific Rim, Yamarashi is Gipsy Danger's first Kaiju battle.
☼ Yamarashi is the first record breaking Category III Kaiju fought by Gipsy Danger. The second was Knifehead.
☼ "Yama arashi" is a Habukareta Waza Judo throwing technique, presumably meaning "mountain storm" or "porcupine".
The lovely drawn image used is located here!
Canon Tattoos | Gamera Jr.
Location: Right forearm.
Summary: "Gamera Jr." is a nickname given to a Kaiju by Newton, one that is technically not listed anywhere in the Pacific Rim canon; it's a turtle-like beast with a blue body with yellow highlights. While there's no supplemental material about this fella, Newton will probably blabber about how thick the shell was and how it was used to further strengthen the cutting tools of the jaegers.
☼ Gamera Jr. is the only other tattoo on Newton that features in the movie outside of Yamarashi.
☼ Gamera is a fictional kaiju from Japan, commonly compared to the Godzilla series.
☼ Newt also lovingly refers to this design as Baby Gamera, a character in DBZ.
The lovely drawing used is located here!
Canon Tattoos | Taurax
Location: Left bicep.
Summary: Taurax attacked Mindanao on July 24, 2022, where it was killed by Striker Eureka. It is a blue hued kaiju with yellow undertones, and features elephant-like attributes, such as two large, strong tusks in its jaw. It has two eyes on each side of its head.
☼ Mentioned only in the novelization.
☼ I picked it because why not.
Canon Tattoos | Hidoi
Location: Right bicep.
Summary: Hidoi attacked Bangkok on January 20, 2021 where it was killed by Crimson Typhoon, piloted by the Wei triplets. It was apparently a pretty ugly creature, considering what it was named, and features strange pincer-like growths on its jaw, large nostrils, and teeth with a lack of lips.
☼ Seriously, "hidoi" is Japanese for "ugly" or "mean". Probably "ugly".
☼ Poor guy.
Canon Tattoos | Ceramander
Location: Full chest and stomach piece.
Summary: Ceramander attacked Hawaii on October 9th, 2021, where it was killed by the combined forces of Coyote Tango and Striker Eureka. Ceramander is a large but wider Kaiju, very frog-like in the face, with many sharp lower teeth, and forward-facing six eyes. Newton enjoys the fact that Ceramander has given him "a kaijuu six-pack".
☼ It is only mentioned in the novelization.
☼ While it is never shown in canon, Newt's tattoo is shown in both artbooks.
☼ Coyote Tango was once piloted by Newton's boss, Marshal Pentecost.
Canon Tattoos | Verocitor / Belobog
Location: Neck and clavicle.
Summary: Verocitor and Belobog are both simulated Kaiju in the Jaeger Academy, used to train their pilots in drifting and manning their jaegers successfully. Newt got creative and combined attributes from both into a tattoo. Belobog is a mixture of a crustacean and an insect. It walks on multiple short legs and uses pincers as a means to attack its enemies. Its deadliest weapon is its tongue, which can pierce the visor of a Jaeger's Conn-Pod in one hit.
☼ In Slavic mythology, Belobog (which literally means "white god") is the deity of light and the sun.
☼ Seen in the Pacific Rim tie-in comics.
Canon Tattoos | Hammerjaw
Location: Right back calf.
Summary: Only mentioned as a tattoo on Newton's back calf, little is actually known about this kaiju. Basically, give me some time to creature a cool design for this poor thing.
☼ It is mentioned in the novelization only, in passing.
☼ Allegedly attacked Cabo, according to creator.
Ximilia Tattoos | Mission 1 | So Yeon
Location: Midback.
Summary: A serene image of So Yeon of Gyeongje, the location of the Ximilia crew's first mission. She was referred to as 'ghost girl', and ultimately used the orb to help revert the sick people of her city who were turned into monsters (with the added help of the Ximilia crew, who helped cure them). She ultimately gave her life in return; Newton decided on this tattoo as a memorial for her.
☼ See: Missions
☼ The floating orange light in her possession is the orb in question.
☼ So Yeon had a brother that totally threatened to murder Newt once. It was cool.
Ximilia Tattoos | Mission 2 | Cheri / Braccia Star Constellation
Location: Upper mid-back and right hand.
Summary: A combination of two tattoos. Cheri was a club owner during the Braccia mission that was revealed to be a double-crosser; she ultimately surrendered the orb after a long battle between her, her lover, and the crew of the Ximilia. Her red eyes against the blue skin were striking to Newton, who decided to get her tattooed despite her treachery. The stars are a constellation in Braccia's sky that he found 'pretty'.
☼ Cheri x Olexia is a popular ship among the Ximilia players.
☼ But also, lots of crewmates don't like them on a count of them being shady.
☼ ... We ship it, tho.
Ximilia Tattoos | Mission 3 | The Castle
Location: Right shoulder blade.
Summary: A reimagining of the floating sky castle in which the third mission took place, it is a sentient location that did the bidding of its master, Remi, as he was trapped in a deep sleep. Newton had jokingly flirted with the castle and offered it his hand in marriage, which Finn passed along to it, but it tragically was not familiar with the custom of marriage. How sad is that???
☼ Obviously the third cute girl on Newton's back.
☼ Or boy, or neither, we don't assume genders in this house.
☼ Call me. 🤙
Ximilia Tattoos | Mission 4 | Rock Dragon
Location: Left shoulder blade.
Summary: A fascinating species located in Badrock, seen during the fourth mission. Newton was smitten by its design and immediately knew he wanted to have it as a tattoo. It has piercing red eyes, large teeth, and sharp rocky protrusions that end in a long, durable tail.
☼ The sand whales were a contender as a possible tattoo.
☼ So were the funky desert foxes.
☼ The fire incorporated is pulsefire, which destroys the body and soul when touched.
Ximilia Tattoos | Mission 5 | Sedorum and Taeum
Location: Low mid-back.
Summary: A symbolic design of the planet Giva, in which two afterlives have been created: Taeum (heaven) and Sedorum (hell). Newton had ended up in Sedorum, and promptly found the nearest tattoo artist to create this new design for the mission.
☼ The flames are based off the pulsefire in the Rock Dragon tattoo.
☼ Newton absolutely went to hell for putting ranch on his spaghetti.
☼ Newt was also nearly fully controlled by Precursors at this point.
Ximilia Tattoos | Personal Relationships | Rhysand's Promise
Location: Right trigger finger.
Summary: A promise made between two nutcases, as Newt would like to say. Done before the precursor's took over, the shared tattoo between Rhys and Newton was once a grim reminder that both will 'look out' for one another, should the time come for it. After the possession, it has become a symbol of protection, one that no longer humors the grisly idea born from their dark mental spaces.

Ximilia Tattoos | Mission 6 | still me; still alive.
Location: Left inner wrist.
Summary: After being possessed by precursors, which left civilians and his crew dead or injured, Newton had no interest in getting that tattooed in memorial anywhere on him. The emotions are still tender,
☼ Received this tattoo on Mission 7, on planet E-23b.
☼ He also received a tongue piercing and ear piercings on this planet.
☼ Alternate quote option: 'strength in surviving'.
Ximilia Tattoos | Mission 7 | Viveca's Mask
Location: Left lower back.
Summary: A copy of the mask Viveca had worn on her planet, symbolizing the orber's seventh mission. Newton still has a lot of complicated feelings about what happened there, as well as some lingering post traumatic stress over witnessing the explosive collars going off on those imprisoned in the labor camps... but he hopes what he could do made some kind of difference, even if they kind of goofed on other decisions. Ha... haha.
☼ This is where they stole Viveca a new body! The robo-body Newt made for her was then passed down to Olivia.
☼ The rebellion featured many different animal masks, including tortoise, foxes, and lions.
☼ This is just a rough sketch, sorry. :'>
Ximilia Tattoos | Mission 8 | Ophon (Bestiary)
Location: Mid Low Back
Summary: A creature located in the bestiary of this underwater planet, it was a beautiful beast that Newton had immediately loved the aesthetic of, especially since it had glowing markings like a kaiju often does.
☼ Newton was a fishman during this mission. It was awesome.
☼ This carnivorous, deep-water dwelling creature commonly makes its home buried in the sand in remote areas. Growing as long as 11 m (36 ft), it captures its prey (small krill and soft-shelled crustaceans) through the use of its bioluminescent fins that act as a lure. Otherwise extremely antisocial, they are an uncommon sight and prefer to hunt during the night when the waters are at their darkest. A meeting with one will not go so well as they lash out in fear.
☼ Another rough sketch due to my laziness.
Ximilia Tattoos | Mission 9 | TBA.
Ximilia Tattoos | Mission 10 | Magma Crab
Location: Right lower back.
Summary: A big critter found during the 10th mission, it's heat and lava-resistent shells made it easy for them to handle their habitat on, in, and around the volcano located on this jungle island.
☼ The orbers had used their shells to survive an exploding volcano.
☼ Planet: Noth 11X8 is a small, uninhabited planet overrun by nature and wildlife. Deemed unsafe and lacking value by the federation of planets within the galaxy it belongs to, Noth 11X8 has been left to its own devices for over a millennia. Thus, any real information on it is outdated, however last known records claim no sapient species reside there.
☼ Rough sketch, oop.
