Oh! Cool! But if you're ever not y'know you can always say, it won't hurt my feelings.
RUMOR???? Ha! Hahaha, no, noooo. Hermann's not like that. He's married to his math. I mean, good on him if he ever does decide to branch out to significant others that aren't composed entirely of equations. ;) We're best friends though. After a nice rocky friendship full of yelling and complaining to higher-ups. Having our brains hooked to the same machine together helped I think.
[ Bro, he's fine, don't worry about it... But if he wasn't fine with it, he would steam roll right over anybody's feelings in this situation, so don't worry about that either! ]
Ah. Sorry, then. I must have misunderstood at some point. The castle was the only one I talked about it with, though, if that helps.
"brains hooked to the same machine" that's a metaphor for something, right?
1. Giant alien monsters stomped around trying to destroy humans. 2. They were getting reaaaally close to actually succeeding at this. 3. I worked on the team that was stopping them from succeeding at this! 4. We needed information about how these monsters worked, so I used a drift machine to link my mind up to a piece of monster brain so I could gather information from its dying mind but it was very overwhelming and almost killed me but I got the information we needed for the next step of the plan. 5. Needed more information, so did it again! But this time with back-up so my mind wouldn't get fried! 6. That back-up was Hermann 7. We used that info to help save the planet
With special devices you put on your head, obviously. :)
These machines are usually used in our giant robots, because one human brain can't pilot them solo. It'd be too much on the mind, they'd be neurologically damaged doing it by themselves. So a system was created so that two minds could pilot the robot together. They connect. Share each other's thoughts, feelings, memories. It helps them pilot in unison.
I just used that method for, uh
looking through an alien's memories for information.
Only twice, for the record. The first time, I made the mistake of drifting alone. But I'm good now.
The second time, I did it right. Had a secondary drifter, too, so the drift itself didn't overwhelm to the point of severe symptoms. That's when we got the information we needed and relayed it to our team. Totally the last piece of the puzzle in taking down the kaiju.
Maybe you should talk to the doctor about it, though. Just in case. Everything you explained, all of that going wrong, it sounds serious.
[ It sounds long term. But, hell, maybe Newton's already talked with McCoy or something. Maybe he's got it handled. Finn doesn't know! Finn just worries! ]

But no
nope
no thing!

[ He sounds dumb even double checking. ]

Honestly, it's kind of cute.
Being that close with my pals that people get the wrong idea!
But nah, that isn't a metaphor, our brains were hooked up to a machine that let us drift through a dying kaiju's brain.
👍👍👍👍👍

I can't tell if you're serious or not

I'm 100% serious!

[ It's been a trying day and you're pulling this on him. ]

Shorthand version:

6. That back-up was Hermann
7. We used that info to help save the planet
There you go! Easy peasy.

That didn't answer
What's a drift machine? How do you link minds via a machine?

[ It doesn't sound healthy in the "normal" way, and this is from a guy that has done this without the need for a machine to get involved. ]
no subject
Nah probably not, I almost died the first time.
But wouldn't you take that risk, if it meant stopping the destruction of humankind?

[ NEWTON ]
Well. Yes. Of course. But. How many times did you do this?
no subject
Only twice, for the record.
The first time, I made the mistake of drifting alone.
But I'm good now.
The second time, I did it right. Had a secondary drifter, too, so the drift itself didn't overwhelm to the point of severe symptoms. That's when we got the information we needed and relayed it to our team. Totally the last piece of the puzzle in taking down the kaiju.

Wait, go back, severe symptoms? Are you okay?
no subject
Finn, you're doing that thing where you worry too much.
I had some issues AFTER that first drift, back then. Unrelated to now.
I'm good now.
[Or so the precursors like to whisper to him, under the surface of his thoughts.]

Okay

But I will.
You just focus on getting whatever info you can from the giant sentient castle, huh?
no subject
Sorry about the whole thing with Hermann.
1/2 revenge for newt hearing finn's accidental texts, incoming
i'm in love with him anyway

Have fun having beautiful bonding moments with a giant sentient castle!
